The physical expression of gender
I recently finished reading a book called The Red Queen – Sex and the evolution of human nature, by Matt Ridley.
The first half is a survey of the various theories of why exactly plants and animals would reproduce sexually rather than asexually. That portion of the book builds up the (then-current) scientific knowledge required to later argue that much of human behaviour is a product of evolution driven by sexual reproduction.
I recommend it. It’s somewhat demanding, so take your time reading it. The author builds up complex arguments and sometimes intentionally leads you to incorrect conclusions to prove a contradictory point. He is often succinctly witty.
Botanical Gardens
A visit to the botanical gardens might not be the first idea you’d have for spending a late winter afternoon …
Toronto-style Chicken
Step one: Buy a half of a rotisserie chicken from the local döner hut, also known as a “half chicken”. For only 40 cents extra it comes with an actually tasty salad, so get that too.
Step two: Reach for your jar of imported St Lawrence Market Churrasco Chicken Sauce. This might be hard to source. Your best options is to hire a sauce mule.
Step three: Cover half of the half chicken with sauce (because a whole half chicken is too much for one person)
Step four: Enjoy your chicken by candlelight.
Tori Katsu Dance
fronx and I got silly while waiting for lunch. I made a little loopcam animated gif called “Tori Katsu Dance”. His loopcam gif is called “Laying eyes on someone”.
Learning is exciting
Sometimes, when I am reading or learning something exciting, I want the ability to consume the entire idea immediately.

Last week, I finally got back to work on a project that has been postponed for several months. I was doing some research for it, and could barely contain my eagerness to Just Get Started Already, Dammit. I like a lot of the work I do, but this one makes me really excited, and caused me to start thinking about things that I feel passionately about.
I was invited to talk at a tech conference in April. I plan on talking about, if not this project, the ideas I have that pertain to it. I love having an opinion, and sharing my opinion*, so this speaking engagement should be fun.

Pasta with the morels my sister sent me as a gift. I thought of her the whole time I was making it.
